Description

That thing punctured clean through both layers of heavy plating like they were little more than paper. How can I possibly repair such damage in a timely manner? - Field Mechanik Boscov appealing his discharge

Destrier, Llael Heavy Warjack

While never supporting a large detachement of warjacks, Llael certainly comissioned the development of a massive range of prototypes for all sorts of battlefield roles. The logic was that, when the time came, several of the most needed designs could be immediately put into production to best meet the oncoming threat. Sadly, the lightning invasion of Khador proved this plan little more than hopeful thinking.

The premier organization in Llael developing these warjack designs was the Golden Circle, enjoying generous commission fees and the political advantage that the industry warranted. Given free reign to best adapt each design as necessary, even the simplest warjack they ever designed has a brilliant reputation going through testing. The integration of advanced mechanikal and alchemically enhanced materials manufacturing allowed the organization to produce lighter, faster weapon designs while sacrificing only minor amounts of protection. While appearing flimsy at first glance, such designs have held up to the vast majority of the battlefield arsenal.

The Ionesto chassis was the first truly unique Llaelese warjack. Utilizing the newer developments of materials technology, the slim warjack design served as the basis for many of the earlier Golden Circle designs. The weapon configurations of these older designs were far less complex in their functions, and relied on simple yet effective weapons to both reduce cost and to maximize battlefield effectiveness.

The Destrier is one of the earliest designs, and while not uncommon for a time, the vast majority were decommissioned as funds for their upkeep evaporated. Nonetheless, a few of these formidable warjacks still are in service under private funding. The rare version kept in good repair is a fearsome sight on the battlefield. The long blade it carries, while named an Estoc, is little more than a triangular spike designed to be driven straight through an opponent. From most mercenary companies fortunate enough to have a Destrier in service come numerous reports of enemy warjacks being punched clean through and borne to the ground, unable to regain their feet.

While reports are inconclusive, it appears that fresh Destriers are being produced somewhere in the territory of occupied Llael. Khadoran High Command is insistent that such a production facilty should be easily found, but as of yet nothing has betrayed such a location. If a few patrols go missing in the forest, it could always be wolves...

Special Rules

Estoc

  • Critical Impale- On a critical hit, the target is knocked down and pinned until the Destrier moves, makes another attack, or the pinned model breaks free. At the start of the pinned model's activation, both the pinned model and the Destrier roll a d6 and add their STR. If the defender's total exceeds the Destrier's, it may stand up normally. If the Destrier wins, the model's activation ends and it remains pinned. A model that cannot be knocked down cannot be pinned.

Open Fist

  • Buckler- The Buckler grants +1 to the Destrier's ARM. This bonus does not apply to damage originating in the models back arc.

Concept Notes

Basically a stock heavy for the Llael faction I'm putting together. I gave it pin for an exciting way to really tie down an opponent, and - like its name - its an absolute warhorse on the charge. Great at single target elimination, although it suffers considerably in dealing with multiple opponents. Any type of swarm should suffer little difficulty in taking this thing down.

Playtesting Notes

This has only recieved a single playtest so far, and has seemed to really serve its purpose at precision elimination. It got wrecked mid-game by a brutal hit off a Juggernaut, but it kept the thing out of the fight for a good two rounds before its demise.
