Description

A new entry to the warjack field, Clan Fergenson sought to exploit a growing need in the marketplace for warjacks that could thrive without a warcaster. The Fergenson Mole was born out of this desire. Practical on both the battlefield and in mining operations, the Mole boasts a powerful steam-driven drill capable of digging through even the most resilient surfaces. Coupled with an additional telescoping optic receptor, the Mole can navigate underneath a battlefield, moving past enemy lines to strike where it is needed most. Striking as it surfaces, the Mole is extremely effective, and will often unbalance its targets with its unconventional attack. The drill itself can be extremely effective against warjack targets, often disabling systems damaged by it with a lucky hit. And the best part is that the Fergenson Mole shares many components of the popular Grundback Gunner and Ghordson Driller, making manufacturing and maintenance costs of this chassis very affordable. With their low-price and ease-of-assembly from surplus parts, the Fergonson Mole has a bright future in the hands of Rhul's finest warriors.

Special Rules

Fergenson Mole

  • Periscope - While this model has a functioning cortex, negate back strike bonuses to attacks made against it.
  • Rhulic Mercenary Warjack - This warjack may only be included in a Rhulic Mercenary warcaster's battlegroup or controlled by a Rhulic Mercenary jack marshal.
  • Tunnel (* Action) - Place a tunneling marker in base contact with this model in the center of its front arc, then remove this model from the table. This model cannot be targeted by free strikes when it is removed from the table. Effects, spells, and animi on this model expire. This model cannot tunnel if its movement or head systems are disabled. This model may surface during any of its controller's Control Phases before focus points are allocated. When this model surfaces, place it anywhere completely within 8" of the marker. There must be room for this model's base in its new location. This model cannot move or tunnel during a turn it surfaces. The first melee attack made by this model the turn it surfaces receives automatically boosted attack and damage rolls. On a Critical Hit, target model is knocked down. This model immediately surfaces in base contact with the tunneling marker if its controlling warcaster is destroyed or removed from play. If this model does not surface, the tunneling marker may be moved up to 5" at the end of this model's controller's Control Phase.

Drill

  • Critical System Failure - On a Critical Hit, every warjack system damaged by the Drill, except the Hull system, is automatically disabled. After marking regular damage, those systems that took damage have their remaining system boxes marked as well.

Concept Notes

I was disappointed that there wasn't a Rhulic light warjack that was great for jack marshaling, and in my pondering I came up with the concept for the Mole. Borrowing the mechanics of Burrowing from the Helldiver, I figure the Mole would be very effective because it can get auto boosted attack and damage rolls every other turn, and would really only need to be run forward on one turn to get into position to do its thing. I liked the idea of it having a periscope as well for traveling below ground. I added the bit about it using its periscope when above ground to give some value to keeping its cortex intact.
