Help:Creating Links

From IKwiki

When editing an article, you can include links to other articles or web pages.

To link to another article in IKwiki, use the [[Title]]. That is, double brackets before and after the exact name of the title of the article.

You can make the link look different by using [[Link Title|text that appears]]. Type the name of the article, the the vetical bar character, then the text you want the link to appear as.

You can link to an external site by simply typing the url. You can give it a title using [www.website.com Title]. That is, single brackets, with the website url, followed by a space, then the title. If you put the link with brackets, but with no title, it will appear as a blank link, like this: [www.privateerpress.com].

There are other types of links too. Check out Wikipedia's Editing Guide

Here are some guildines to follow:

  • When editing an article to include links, always use the Show Preview button to see if your links are working and look correct. If the link shows up red, that means there is no existing article by that name. If the link shows up orange, then there is an existing article on IKwiki, and your link should work.
  • Every article should include at least one link to another article, so as not to be a dead-end.
  • Make sure that any external links you correct go to an appropreate place. Since those links can't be verified, and the content of those links might change, they are not as safe as internal links.
