Partisan
From IKwiki
Description
Khadoran soldiers are always proud to fight alongside their warjack brethern, but never so much as when the Partisan takes the field. Drawing upon better munitions attained from the conquest of Llael, the Partisan places a very modern cannon upgrade on the classic Khadoran warjack chassis. Its relentless quad-cannon is able to lay down a steady stream of metal slugs, while its massive assault tower shield protects troops seeking protection on the battlefield. Revolutionary gyro-stabilizing support allows for phenomenally-accurate shots despite the chassis's outdated understanding of firearms. Though the Partisan lacks the solid punch of other configurations built on its chassis, it more than makes up for this with volume of attacks. Even in melee, the Partisan can still strike accurately with its fierce head spike while bashing the life out of soldiers with its shield. With new resources still flowing in from occupied Llael, the Partisan will continue to be a favored ally of warcaster and jack marshal alike in the years to come.
Special Rules
Partisan
- Head Spike - This model gains +2 POW for head-butt attacks.
Assault Tower Shield
- Guard - A model screened by this model gains an additional +2 DEF. Attacks that ignore screening also ignore this bonus. This bonus is not cumulative with itself.
Quad Cannon
- Gyro-stabilizer Support - When aiming, this model gains a +2 bonus to ranged attack rolls made with this weapon. This bonus is in addition to the attack bonus for aiming.
- Multi-fire (* Attack) - After resolving a successful attack with the Quad-Cannon, this model may immediately make an additional Quad-Cannon attack targeting the last model hit or another model within 2" of the last target hit. This model may make up to four Quad-Cannon attacks during its activation.
Concept Notes
I think most Khadoran warjacks based on the Juggernaut chassis are junk (except the Destroyer). I also think Khador is in need of more warjacks with ranged attacks (which is the greatest strength of a warjack, in my experience). To both push that old-school chassis and get Khador another gun, I started brainstorming of the Partisan. Giving it a big assault shield helps it survive, as ARM 22 is no joke. Making that a Tower Shield to get the Guard effect makes it practical to keep in the middle of your force as a solid pillar to hide by -- exactly the sort of thing your average Khadoran warrior would be want to stand beside. Getting a good ranged attack that isn't another mortar was a bit hard to come up with, but I think the Quad-Cannon fits the bill and still feels Khadoran. Since the jack is designed to be run turn 1 and aim from there out, I see it being a solid to field with a Jack Marshal. At the same time, I also see it being a jack you would load up with focus to boost those damage rolls that aren't hard to pour out at your enemies. Either way, it makes for a good Khadoran ranged warjack with a good chance of making it into battle. Topping it off with a Head Spike as a standard weapon gives you two melee attacks, so what the Partisan lacks in raw punch it can make up for with being able to hit twice and still have a gun.
While it may seem that the point guestimate is a bit low, consider that a lot of the cost in those heavy warjacks is likely from their big-hitting melee weapons. A Partisan is strong against lighter-ARM targets like troops and even warcasters, but on average rolls against bigger targets, it's not likely to do more than a point or two in melee against a Juggernaut.
