Talk:The Predator Mk II

Uncle Biggins

Been busy with the FT so havent had spare time to comment on things.

Good things:

Weapon Stats. POW Range and intention of each weapon is near perfect. The claw to me doesnt seem in line with the correct POW I would assign it. Making it POW 16/17 wouldnt throw off the curb of this jack.

Picture. Looks awesome.

Tweaks:

Points Cost currently strikes me as an 11. Compared to a defender the combination of its solid frame, mage shots and

MAT and RAT bumped to 7 and 6 respectively in line with the chassis in MKii and it being a character which typically means they gain +1 MAT/RAT.

Affinty: Not really a massive fan of the affinty. While I dont think its a bad idea to have an affinty. I was thinking something like back to back shooter or something like: gains shield guard when with Tymss or may reroll a failed attack each turn. Something different because with his current bond and caster, Tymss drops like a hat when he gets damaged and is not the type of caster to soak up damage over the course of turns, rather he lives on the edge and dies to a concerted effort (KD + a few hits will do it) or dodges and weaves not taking a scatch. In actual games I find this type of bond you have currently chosen not very compelling and forces you to make poor tactical choices (or get lucky) before you reap rewards from the rule.

Imprint. Character jacks often have imprints now. I think True sight would be an interesting choice that gives casters the option to expand or twart certain tactics against this jack. It also fits in the theme with gunmages as the UA and the solo both grant anti-stealth abilities as does ECaine.

Bad:

Limited Field Allocation. I would drop this all together, Character jacks by the rules cannot be marshalled and it goes against the spirit of the game to have such restrictions on pieces like warjacks. The Predator should be an available tactical option to Haley, Siege or any other caster.

Too many runebullets: I would consider slightinly improving either the RNG or the POW of the gun itself and eliminate a few runeshots to bring it down to just 3 more unique ones.

I would change it slightly as such: Increase the POW by one.

Vortex Shell: If this attack hits it explodes in a 3" AOE. On a critical hit the AOE is 5" instead. (like arcane vortex order from the ATGM unit compressed into a single shot)

Brutal Shot: blah blah. Brutal shot.

Tracer: If target model is directly hit by this attack ranged attacks targeting it this turn gain +2 on attack rolls.

OK went back over to make some modifications. Let me know what you think.

First off I got rid off the Snipe and Thunderbolt Arcane Effects opting to narrow it down to one other instead Shadow Fire. This is a legit Arcane Effect as seen on Taryn Di La Rovissi.

Secondly I changed the effect of the Affinity. Now we should see some more ability for T'mys to be a little more resilient to incoming attacks.

Thirdly I added an imprint. Similar to Ol' Rowdy's but based on Range instead of Melee. Inversely I got rid of the Limited Field Engagement. I didn't go with true sight as T'mys can just cast 'Beyond the Veil' on the Predator for the same result.

I could not justify a change to the Magelock Cannon's RNG or POW.

When writing up the Twin Bladed Gauntlet, I used the Mangler's Punching Spike as a baseline. Giving it the open hand ability seemed natural. Although I am toying with the idea of giving this weapon the Sustained Attack ability.

As Ol' Rowdy is only 9 points I think 10 points is viable point cost for this unit. Both the Defender and Centurion are only 9 pts each and the Stormclad is only 10. I went in the middle with the suggestion of rising the Predator's MAT & RAT looking at both the Defender's and the Centurion's stats in these areas I decided to go somewhere in the middle and went with 6 in both categories taking the lesser of one and the higher of the other. I am still keeping the other stats to match the Centurion's as this is what the Hammersmith did being built on the same chassis.

Your right. This does strike me as a 10PC model. Love the changes you have made to it. Rebuttal is an awesome name and the effect looks awesome.

Good choice of runebullets, stats are good as well. Just a consideration. If the affinity with T'mys was shield guard then it would give you a different way to trigger rebuttal. That way if the opponent tries to assassinate you with a ranged attack, you both draw the damage and get to make a counter shot.

Just a thought. Otherwise its fine.

I thought about that effect between Rebuttal and Shield Guard, but in the end I thought it was just a little to much. You shoot T'mys, the damage is transferred to the Predator and immediately you get a cannon in your face. Beautiful symmetry, but way overpowering and a bit cheesy. I just couldn't do it.

Biggie, I LOVE the new Warjack Stats template. Is there anyway you could fix it on the Predator's page so that it sits just under the Warjack Cost block without moving the picture or description?

And I wanted to say thanks for all the help shaping the Predator into a real functional model. I'm seriously thinking of submitting the stats for T'mys and the Predator to Privateer Press. In fact I've tried to pay all the help you gave me forward by helping Maganac and his Behemoth style Freebooter, the Broadside. Check it out and let him know what you think.

I imagine that a transfer mechanic for an affinity would be a bit difficult to work in. How about instead Guardian could be changed to while within 3" T'mys gains +2 DEF to ranged and magic attacks. It is different from having shield guard and will not force Rebuttal triggers as you fear (though I personally dont feel like that would entirely be a bad thing), but still provide protection to your warcaster.
