Description
The Predator Heavy Warjack is a hybrid weapon system based on a standard Centurion chassis. Adding a Defender's targeting matrix for the addition of a ranged weapon onto the Centurion's chassis. The weapon system is the idea of a Rhullic Engineer in King Leto Rhaelthorne's employ at the Cygnar foundries, Rymus Ironhands. The concept had been a long time coming after witnessing the power of a unit of Arcane Tempest Gun Mages. Commissioning the Magelock Cannon almost two years before Khador's invasion of Llael, the finished product arrived a mere four days before the invasion began. The Cortex was commissioned through Cyriss technicians, adding the blood of a Gun Mage Warcaster as a final alchemical ingredient. Taking away the Magno Shield, a twin bladed gauntlet was added in as a close in melee system. Another 'Idea' from Rymus. As a Gun Mage Warcaster had to be chosen for this weapon system, and since Allister Caine was not only assigned elsewhere but bonded to two separate magelocks another was chosen Captain Adept T'mys Willis. Research with the magelock cannon allowed further testing and training with other gun mage officers allowing Gun Mage officers to be trained in the art of 'Rune Shot'.
Special Rules
Predator
- Affinity (Willis): Guardian - While B2B with the Predator, Willis can transfer any damage taken from a ranged or magic attack to any non system box on the Predator. If out of boxes Willis can not transfer damage.
- Imprint: Rebuttal - During its turn, this model can spend 1 focus point to use Rebuttal. For one round, when this model is hit by a ranged attack during and enemy model's combat action, immediately after that combat action ends this model can make on normal ranged attack, then Rebuttal expires.
Magelock Cannon
- Magic Weapon
- Attack Type - Each time this model makes a normal ranged attack, choose one of the following effects:
- Black Penny - This attack ignores firing into melee penalty.
- Brutal Damage - Gain an additional die on this weapon's damage roll.
- Shadow Fire - Friendly faction models can ignore the model hit when determining LOS and making ranged or magic attacks this turn.
Twin Bladed Gauntlet
- Fist - The Predator's Twin bladed Gauntlet has the abilities of an Open Fist.
Concept Notes
This Warjack concept was created before rules for 'Affinity' and 'Rune Shot' were created. Similar to play as a Defender but with the addition of Magelock Cannon allows for probably one of the most devastating ranged weapons in the game. The bond was originally similar to that of the Old Witch and her Scrapjack, thereby limiting you choice of warcasters for this unit. Since the Affinty rule set it has since been adapted to use with multiple Cygnar Warcasters, while keeping an important aspect between the warjack itself and Captain Adept T'mys Willis. A Traditional Cygnar paint scheme for the Centurion was used since it was the base model in this construction. Centurion parts: Body, Head, Shoulders, Left Arm, Knee Pads. Hammersmith parts: Legs. Defender parts: Cannon. Renegade parts: Arc Node.
Playtesting Notes
Field Test Event 1 - Cygnar vs Legion of Everblight
- Lessons Learned
- 1. I may have to lower the ARM by one and raise the warjack points by one to make T'mys more comparable to other Cygnar warcasters. Still figuring this one out.
- 2. Still need to work the wording on the Feat. Action and Activation have specific meanings in Warmachine/Hordes. Will look into the re-write.
- 3. Still need to work on the wording for the Affinity rule on the Predator. It should work similar to the Ogrun Bokur's ability to take a hit. Tranfers Damage is an actual Hordes term and means something different.
- 4. Lightning Shot is priced correctly. It can be devastating and possibly fired twice, so the conservation of focus is on the player. Even my opponent thought it was fair.
- 5. Brutal Damage still seems to be the clincher on the Predator. While damn dangerous it is not worth raising the cost up to 12 pts, possibly 11.
Field Test Event 2 - Cygnar vs Cryx
- Lessons Learned
- 1. Feat and Affinity rules still need to be rewritten.
- 2. 'Invisibility' no longer exist in Warmachine Mk II. Will need to rework the 'Beyond the Vieil' spell. Possibly compensate by adding Magic Weapon to spell instead.
- 3. Proper Focus allocation proves to continue to be a must. 6 focus is extremely adequate for this caster. While Willis has decent abilities it seems prudent to take a support like the Squire or Major Strangeways, similar to a Journeyman accompanying Allister Caine.
